Samsung has released an update for some of its older devices that adds various AI functions. This concerns the Galaxy S23, Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 smartphones, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 9 tablets.
The update in question concerns One UI 6.1. On the Tweakers forum, among others, users have been reporting since Thursday morning that they can install the update on their phone. This adds many of the Galaxy AI features from the S24 models to older Samsung devices.
This includes features that translate phone calls and elements into videos. In addition, the software can transcribe and summarize audio recordings and summarize the content of web pages. The Samsung keyboard can also improve the grammar of sentences or provide suggestions for better wording. Artificial intelligence can now also be used to edit photos and videos. This makes it possible to move objects on photos, whereby the empty space that is created is automatically filled.
The Circle to Search function will also become available. This allows users to circle something on the screen and search for it via Google. This can be either text or an object. Users can also ask questions about the cutout image, which will then be answered by an AI bot. This function, unlike the majority of AI functions, is not exclusive to Samsung devices. Google Pixel devices, from the Pixel 6 series, also have access to this function.
Samsung previously announced that the Galaxy AI functions were being released for these older devices. It does not appear that they will also be available for the S22 series, although the company previously said that those devices are powerful enough for that. The South Korean manufacturer is not yet charging money for the use of the functions, but Samsung previously wrote that it may want to charge users for Galaxy AI functions after 2025.
