Game publisher and developer Activision is investigating the alleged theft of credentials from Call of Duty players. TechCrunch writes this based on insiders. It is not known how large the scale of the theft is and who is behind the hacks.

The thieves are said to have targeted the login details of the gaming accounts and crypto wallets of Call of Duty players, writes TechCrunch. They get this by ‘infecting the victims’ computers with malware’. It is not known what type of malware this is. It is also not clear in which games the affected players are active.

A source involved in the investigation, who wished to remain anonymous, said Activision is offering assistance to affected players. “We don’t yet know exactly how the malware spreads. It may only affect people who have third-party tools installed,” the source said. An Activision spokesperson told TechCrunch that the company is aware of the claims and that the server is “secure.”

The malware campaign appears to have been first discovered by cheat software developer Zeebler. He received the message that the account of a customer of cheat provider PhantomOverlay had been hacked. Zeebler then said he launched an investigation and was able to find the database of stolen login credentials that the hackers were collecting, writes TechCrunch. The news site has viewed some of the stolen logins and was able to verify that some of the data is real login data. However, it is not clear exactly how old the data is.
