Somewhat disappointing, many people had expected/hoped for a smashing Blizzcon this year because of Warcraft’s 30th anniversary and World of Warcraft’s 20th anniversary, both in November, the normal ‘standard’ month for Blizzcon.

On the other hand, it was also a bit obvious, the previous edition was not really seen as well executed, especially by visitors. It was not sold out, while previous editions were always sold out within a few minutes at most, among other things the tickets were considered too expensive ($299 for the cheapest), the more expensive ‘Portal Pass’ tickets of $799 were said to have offered too little added value, furthermore there was a lot of complaining about rows, etc. see https://www.techradar.com…ueues-and-poor-management.

All in all, if you read through last year’s experiences on the forums, Blizzard-related Reddits, etc., it seems as if the Blizzard event team, which was normally praised, did not have it all together last year. It will not have been easy after 3 canceled editions, probably also quite a bit of turnover in that team, because there were actually no ‘in person’ events at all for 3 years, but on the other hand it is logical that in certain cases customers would have the experience of last year. found Blizzcon unworthy, after all you pay a lot and if it is not 100% in order on location you are disappointed.

I watched the online version last year, and it was fine. Although the content there also seemed to be less than the previous editions. However, this time the streams were free, so that was fine.

In addition, I recently heard through the rumor mill that Blizzcon might not take place or in a different form and that an announcement might be coming, also due to the fact that Microsoft still seems to be cutting costs and that Blizzcon will go ahead. might not go down well with other studios under the Microsoft umbrella.

All in all, very unfortunate of course, but given the problems of last year and the possibly ongoing cost reductions at Microsoft, it might be logical and hopefully they can take a good look at the design of the event so that it can hopefully be better in the future can come. Although I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if it later turns out that Blizzcon 2023 was the last, or at least the last old style.
