A 22-year-old man from Laren was injured in an accident on the night of Wednesday to Thursday. He drove into a tree along the Oudendijk between Bathmen and Laren. The police suspect him of being under the influence. The accident happened around 1:30 am. For unknown reasons, the man veered out of the bend in his car, ended up on the side of the road and knocked out a traffic sign. The car then came to a stop against a tree, according to Omroep Gelderland.

The impact of the blow caused a short circuit and the horn continued to sound. This woke up local residents, who saw what had happened and then alerted the emergency services. The police, fire brigade and an air ambulance then arrived at the scene of the accident. The driver managed to get out of his car under his own power, but suffered several broken bones, according to a police spokesperson. He was treated in hospital for this.

Officers who had the driver blow his breath at the scene of the accident found that the man was driving under the influence of alcohol. The blood test in the hospital confirmed this.
