Things are not going smoothly at PSV at the moment, so Peter Bosz was mainly relieved afterwards that his team managed to win again after Saturday’s defeat. Yet the coach had to admit that what PSV showed in Rotterdam was not very good.

Excelsior had only taken two points since January 19 and therefore seemed the ideal opponent for PSV to recover well from the first defeat of the season. But Peter Bosz’s team still lacked confidence with a measly 2-0 win and especially a mediocre first half.

“We certainly didn’t play well in the first half,” the coach also noted. “But the intention was very different than last Saturday. I was happy to see that again.”

“It was logical that we had difficulty today, Excelsior was very compact.”

The trainer was referring to the words he used on Saturday after the defeat against NEC. He felt that his team was on the field with a haughty attitude at the time. “That was different today. I still stand by those words. Today it was also logical that it was more difficult for us to create opportunities. They were very compact and you have to remain patient. Excelsior cannot keep that up for 90 minutes.”

Bosz thought that things were becoming more difficult at PSV also had to do with last Saturday’s defeat. “There was quite a bit of pressure. Everyone expects you to beat Excelsior. Then afterwards you will be very happy with the three points. That was the main goal of the evening.”

“The rest of the matches won’t be easy either.”

The trainer somewhat avoided questions about a more difficult phase that PSV may be in. PSV can show on Saturday that it is still the good team it was before the winter break. AZ, the number four of the Eredivisie, then comes to visit. One of the most difficult hurdles towards the national title. “But every match is difficult for us now,” Bosz parried that comment. “We are also having difficulty with Excelsior today. Then the rest won’t get any easier.”
