Dieuwertje Blok has cancer in her nose, the presenter tells De Volkskrant. She now has to undergo a nasal amputation and therefore stops all her work for the time being.
She candidly tells her story to the newspaper.

Dieuwertje Blok decided to call the newspaper herself and tell her story, because she said she wanted to be in control. “With this interview I am preparing people for a big shock. It will take a while before I have a prosthesis, so it is better if everyone knows what is happening to me.”
The Sinterklaas news presenter tells how she discovered that something was wrong. “It started with me, like everyone else, having my finger up my nose. At the beginning there was a very small hard spot that I thought was a wart. The doctor thought so too, so he treated it with nitrogen, but It didn’t go away.” After further investigation it turned out to be skin cancer.
“I have had my appearance with me for 66 years, now I have to undergo an operation that is disfiguring,” says the presenter. “Although today’s prosthetics are beautiful.”

It remains to be seen whether we will see Dieuwertje again on TV. This means that we no longer see her presenting The Sinterklaas News after years. Although, De Volkskrant does give her an idea that it would be good for children to see her.
“You give me an idea. I haven’t thought about it that way at all. I thought: television is over now, but of course that doesn’t have to be the case if that prosthesis becomes beautiful. I will have more difficulty accepting that myself. There are still steps to be taken in acceptance, haha. Because I talk about it so coolly now, because that’s what it feels like now, but it’s still not completely real.”
NTR has already announced that she can “of course” come back.
