A serious traffic accident near Leipzig, Germany, has claimed the lives of at least five people. Dozens of injured people are also taken into account, German media report.
A bus reportedly left the road on the A9 near Leipzig and then overturned. It may be a Flixbus. The emergency services responded with large equipment and closed the road.
The death toll could possibly rise further. According to Zeit Online and the BBC at least five people have died. Other passengers were injured, but the exact number is still unclear. According to local media, fifty injured and ten seriously injured are expected. Photos show emergency services helicopters landing on the highway.
The accident is said to have happened around 9:45 am. The vehicle from bus operator FlixBus was reportedly driving from Berlin to Zurich, Switzerland. There would have been 53 passengers and two drivers on the bus.
The A9 is an important motorway between Berlin and Munich.
