The police have started to end the Extinction Rebellion (XR) demonstration on the A10. XR activists are removed from the highway.

Just after noon, activists climbed over the highway guardrail near the former ING headquarters. A group of almost ninety demonstrators blocked the road for a while. XR demands that ING immediately stop financing the fossil industry.

In advance, the Amsterdam ‘triangle’ (mayor, police chief and chief public prosecutor) had already called the announced blockade irresponsible and banned the action.

It is not the first time that XR has blocked the ring road around Amsterdam. At the end of December, the action group managed to walk onto the highway for the first time. That lasted hours. Ultimately, 400 people were arrested.

It was successful for the second time on February 24 this year, but a third attempt at the end of March failed. The police then intervened and stopped four cars that wanted to paralyze traffic a little further away.

Today, XR managed to block traffic and thus give the demonstrators at the former ING office ample space to enter the highway.
