Luftwaffe searches for missing child with Tornado

--

In Germany, a missing boy was searched for in the village of Bremervörde, north of Bremen. The Luftwaffe assisted in the search and used a Tornado.

Six-year-old Arian from Elm has been missing since Monday evening. The entire region is being searched with sniffer dogs and more than five hundred rescue workers: nearby rapeseed fields, ponds and adjacent gardens. The boy is autistic and doesn’t say much, which makes the search difficult. The German Luftwaffe was asked for help in the search on Tuesday. “We have just received the report and are now using one of our tornadoes to assist in the search for little Arian,” the Luftwaffe said on https://twitter.com/Team_Luftwaffe/status/1782810224174285287.

Flight data from ADSBexchange showed a Tornado flying back and forth over the search area at low altitude. A fighter jet is not an obvious option to use during a missing person, fellow X users also noted. In most cases, helicopters or drones assist in a search. The Luftwaffe indicates that it is a special ‘Reconnaissance Tornado’. With help from a RecceLite pod a large area can be mapped in a short time.

The reconnaissance system is further explained on the Bundeswehr website. ‘Thanks to a multiple scanning process and the high degree of rotation of the optics, RecceLite can deliver high-resolution digital exploration results even at high speeds.’ The pod is equipped with an electro-optical camera that includes an infrared camera, which allows operations both during the day and at night. Using the integrated data link, the acquired images are available for evaluation in almost real time.
