The data of more than 70 million people has been leaked at the American telecom company AT&T. This includes social security numbers, names and email addresses of customers.

According to AT&T, the data of approximately 7.6 million current customers and 65.4 million former customers can be found on the dark web. It does not appear that any customer financial information has been leaked, AT&T reports. According to the company, this concerns data from before 2019.

The telecom company has not yet found evidence that the data has been stolen or that the company’s systems have been hacked. AT&T has called in experts to investigate how the data ended up on the dark web.

The data breach was discovered two weeks ago. AT&T only announced it last weekend so that it could first take measures. For example, the company has reset all customer passwords.

AT&T has approximately 290 million customers in the United States. This makes it one of the largest telecom companies in that country.
