The Investing in a Future-Proof Industry (SITI) subsidy scheme has been extended by one year. This means that Groningen industrial companies can now apply for a subsidy until April 2025 for investments in green raw materials, green hydrogen, circular economy and electrification of business processes.

“The scheme will support large-scale industrial investment projects in Groningen for longer,” the province said.

Since the subsidy was opened in 2021, 13 applications have been submitted. To date, approximately 8 million euros in subsidy has been awarded for a total investment volume of more than 67 million euros (subsidy percentage of 12%). This includes subsidies for a circular concrete factory and for a biorefinery. From 2021, this will create 95 jobs for a CO2 reduction of 200 kilotons. That is the CO2 emissions from the gas and electricity consumption of more than 40 thousand households.

Henk Emmens (Provincial Executive): “Making the industry more sustainable is necessary and stimulating the circular economy through reuse of raw materials and energy savings remains important. Entrepreneurs who want to invest in this will now have the opportunity to work on this for longer with this subsidy. We would also like to attract new sustainable companies to Groningen with this scheme. In this way we make the entire industrial chain stronger and create employment. This contributes to expanding Groningen’s leading position in the field of green chemistry, biobased raw materials, green hydrogen and the circular economy.”

Regulation

This scheme (SITI 2021) focuses on supporting sustainable and circular industrial investment projects (with the exception of energy producers). The Groningen National Program (NPG) has made 20.5 million euros available to the province for this in 2021. Applications can be submitted from April 15, 2024.

The Investing in Future-Proof Industry subsidy can be applied for through the Northern Netherlands Partnership. The SNN assesses the subsidy applications. For more information, see: www.snn.nl/SITI.
