The House of Representatives will debate Russian money flows to Dutch politicians. MPs have agreed to a request from PVV leader Geert Wilders. Czech media reported on the payments on Wednesday.

A pro-Russian news site is said to have sent hundreds of thousands of euros last year to Dutch politicians, among others, so that they would speak out against Ukraine and the European Union. Media write this on the authority of the Czech secret service.

According to the Czech news platform Denik N include FVD leader Thierry Baudet and FVD MEP Marcel de Graaff at news site Voice of Europe concerned.

“Man and horse must be mentioned. Which politicians are they and which parties are they?” Wilders asked. The PVV leader hopes that the outgoing cabinet can provide clarity about this in a letter and also say whether the reporting is correct. He wants to debate it next week, if the reports turn out to be true. All parties present at the debate support this request.

FVD did not appear at the debate. Party leader Baudet threatened Jesse Klaver of GroenLinks-PvdA on Wednesday when he asked him to make financial documents public. The left-wing politician wanted to know whether the foundation that is the predecessor of the political party FVD has received money from abroad.

Politicians react with concern to reports about money flows

Earlier on Thursday, several politicians reacted with concern to reports of money flows from Russia. “Totally unacceptable,” Wilders ruled. “Very worrying messages,” said Klaver.

Caroline van der Plas of BBB finds it “worrying when politicians and parties allow themselves to be paid to convey a certain message, whatever message that is”. She is still waiting to draw conclusions. Whether the reports are true must first be determined, she emphasized. “Maybe some parts will still come to the surface.”

Pieter Omtzigt of NSC called it “very undesirable if money is accepted from Russia, left or right”. According to him, this “needs to be sorted out”. According to him, this can be done either through a debate or by inquiring with the Czech authorities. Omtzigt does not suspect anyone specifically. “It’s quite something if you suspect someone of this.”
