This was announced by a spokesperson for the Royal Military Police (KMar). The KMar does not provide an answer to the question of why the bus was only stopped in the center of Amstelveen. “We do not comment on tactical reasons, the investigation into the threatening statements at Schiphol is still ongoing,” the spokesperson said.

Followed by police helicopter

Yesterday it was announced that the bus the man had boarded had already left Schiphol was followed by a police helicopter. This concerned line 300, which runs from Schiphol via the center of Amstelveen to Bijlmer Arena.

The bus driver stopped the bus on the Meander at the request of the Royal Military Police, after which the area was cordoned off and the bus station evacuated. While waiting for an arrest team and an Explosives Reconnaissance Team (TEV), the police kept an eye on the bus – which at the time still contained several passengers.

Arrested

Ultimately the suspect arrested by specialized police officers, led off the bus and taken to the station for questioning. The other passengers were also able to leave the bus safely.

Soon after the 67-year-old man from The Hague was arrested, it turned out that the suspicious package he was carrying did not contain explosives.
