Spanish justice has lost one of the most wanted drug criminals in the Netherlands | Abroad

--

Criminal Karim B., wanted in the Netherlands, is missing again after he was arrested by the Spanish police in January. B. was allowed to await his Spanish criminal trial in freedom, but did not appear at the court where he had to report regularly.

B. was arrested in January in the seaside resort of Marbella. Spanish police had been looking for him since 2018 because he was suspected of drug trafficking and money laundering.

The Netherlands had also requested Spain to arrest B.. He is suspected of trafficking in soft and hard drugs. The Netherlands requested his extradition after his arrest.

The Spanish police released B. on bail in March. One of the conditions was that B. reported to the court in Málaga twice a month. B. also paid a deposit of 50,000 euros and had to surrender his passport to the Spanish judge.

B. reported until April 1, but he did not show up on April 15. Spanish Minister of Justice Felix Bolaños was only informed on Tuesday morning about B.’s absence. Bolaños assumes that the Spanish police will track B. down again.

In conflict with Taghi and ‘Rico the Chilean’

Karim B. is a brother of Samir B., who was liquidated in 2014 and played a major role in the international cocaine trade for years. The Dutch police assume that Karim has taken over the activities of his murdered brother. According to the Dutch Public Prosecution Service, Karim B. has come into conflict with Ridouan Taghi and Richard R., who is also called ‘Rico the Chilean’.

There was previously a lot of discussion within the Spanish justice system about releasing B. on bail, the Spanish newspaper reports El Pais. B.’s lawyers had submitted a request to this effect.

The national court had insisted on keeping B. in prison, partly because of the Netherlands’ extradition request. Among other things, a warning was given about the risk of flight. But the provincial court of Málaga decided to release B. on bail.
