Municipalities and provinces have the same goal: working on a safe and healthy living environment for our residents and entrepreneurs. By means of together we can work even more efficiently and professionally. The 16 South Limburg municipalities and the Province of Limburg have therefore been joining forces since 2013.

The South Limburg Environmental Service is one of the 28 Environmental Services in our country. Together we work more efficiently, better and cheaper to achieve a safe and healthy living environment in the region.

Thanks to this collective approach and the bundling of knowledge and expertise, we have grown into a high-quality, professional and reliable regional partner in the field of licensing, supervision and enforcement (VTH) and environmental advice.

We are looking for one for our service DIRECTOR/SECRETARY
(36 hours, 1 FTE)

YOU AND THE POSITION

  • You are ultimately responsible for the quality, but also the business operations and effectiveness of the organization and the realization of the set goals.
  • You ensure the continuous development and innovation of the organization. You also focus on internal organizational issues.
  • You lead the organization in an inspiring way and are the direct manager of the Management Team and Staff. You advise, based on a vision, strategic framework and legal context, the Executive Board and General Board of the South Limburg Environment Agency.
  • You identify and connect based on local, regional and national developments. You develop and maintain a network of relationships at both administrative and official level.
  • You also maintain excellent cooperative relationships with the partners of the environmental service. Not only with the participating organizations or owners, but also with the other environmental services, safety regions, etc.
  • You listen carefully to those around you, weigh their input in decision-making and involve and inform them in this and about this.
  • As a WOR director, you know how to find the works council quickly and easily and you maintain a good relationship with the works council. You involve the works council in developments in a timely manner, so that they can provide their input. You see the Works Council as a worthy sparring partner and include their input in your decision-making.

ORGANIZATION
The South Limburg Environmental Service is located in Maastricht. More than 170 people work there. In addition to the director, the organization consists of four departments. As a director, you form the Management Team together with the four department heads and the controller. The organization is managed by a General Board and Executive Board. The culture is no-nonsense and is characterized by short lines, a hands-on mentality and a focus on results. Employees appreciate us as an employer because they listen and there are plenty of opportunities to develop; an initial culture is far removed from us.

CHALLENGES
The board has made room for the further development of the organization into a robust environmental service. From a constructive basis, a number of challenges can be identified that the new director will be tackling:

  • Implementing and following up on the actions as included in the established Action Plan for a robust South Limburg Environmental Service;
  • Implementing and following up on the actions as included in the service’s Improvement Plan, established following a national inspection of our service.

  • You have vision and can translate strategic goals into the organization, you create clarity and overview;
  • You stand firm and are a go-getter – you don’t rest until things are completed;
  • You are easily approachable, transparent and offer a listening ear;
  • You manage in broad terms;
  • You are administratively sensitive and have good communication skills, and you maintain your network;
  • You monitor the open working environment where employees can be themselves;
  • You identify and act on developments. You are keen on opportunities and developments that exist for the organization and its owners.

What are you bringing?

  • WO level, for example in the field of public administration, business economics, business administration or law;
  • You have held management positions for several years;
  • You have demonstrable experience in directing organizational development;
  • You have good knowledge of business operations;
  • You have experience with a (comparable) government organization. Working with or within a GR is not new to you;
  • Affinity with the physical environment.

  • A salary based on 36 hours per week of a maximum of € 8,779 gross per month (scale 15 Collective Labor Agreement SGO applicable from January 1, 2024) depending on knowledge, education and experience;
  • Excellent employment conditions. In addition to the aforementioned salary, you build up a monthly Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 17.05%.
