‘Van Persie header’ De Bruyne and magical Foden help Man City past Brighton

--

Manchester City left little intact against Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday evening. A dazzling first half led to a 0-3 lead for Pep Guardiola’s team after just over thirty minutes. Julián Álvarez took care of the final score in the second half: 0-4.

With the exception of Bart Verbruggen, all Dutch selection players played at Brighton and Manchester City. Nathan Aké started on behalf of the visitors, including Joël Veltman and Jan Paul van Hecke the Seagulls appeared at the kick-off.

In the first act, the Dutch Brighton duo had to passively watch as Manchester City outclassed Roberto De Zerbi’s team and played football in silence at the Amex Stadium. Vomiting after fifteen minutes the Citizens the ban.

Kevin De Bruyne took care of that goal. And how. His goal did the pundits in England immediately think of Robin van Persie’s historic goal in the World Cup match against Spain.

After a cross from Kyle Walker, De Bruyne scored with a truly beautiful flying header – à la Van Persie -: 0-1. It turned out to be just the starting signal of a fantastic first half.

After De Bruyne’s beautiful goal, Phil Foden grabbed the attention of the Amex Stadium. The Englishman, who was in excellent form, scored not one, but two goals. The first was a bit happy. The wall that had been set up deflected the youngster’s free kick, leaving Jason Steele without a chance: 0-2.

Shortly afterwards he took advantage of a clumsy loss of ball by the Brighton defense. Bernardo Silva intercepted and Foden easily slotted home: 0-3. It was already his 24th goal of this season. In addition, the technician has already recorded ten assists.

After the tea break, City remained hungry for a fourth goal. Álvarez in particular was eagerly looking for his goal, and he found it. After a bizarre long kick from Ederson, the Argentinian was able to finish after good preparatory work by Walker: 0-4.

This means that the championship race in England remains exciting. Thanks to the resounding victory, Manchester City climbs back over Liverpool, after losing points to the Reds earlier this week. Arsenal occupies first place, although Manchester City can also leapfrog the Londoners with a game in hand.
