Max Verstappen is the absolute superstar of the Red Bull Racing team. However, the Dutch world champion also looks out for his colleagues. Liam Lawson is happy to work with Verstappen. The New Zealand talent explains that Verstappen helped him a lot last year when he unexpectedly had to make his debut.

Lawson is the reserve driver for the Red Bull teams this year. Last year he unexpectedly made his debut in Zandvoort when he had to fill in for the injured Daniel Ricciardo. Lawson was allowed to participate in a handful of races and he made a big impression. Yet he did not get a seat for this year, but he is often involved in the work of Red Bull Racing and Visa Cash App RB.

Advice

Lawson also works a lot with Max Verstappen. The young New Zealander is very enthusiastic about Verstappen as a person. In an interview with Fox Sports Australia, he is asked how he views Verstappen’s performance: “He is actually a super nice guy outside the car. He can appear very aggressive on television, but he is extremely competitive. He is a really good guy. “When I had the opportunity to do a few races last year, he was one of the few who was open to really talking to me and giving me advice.”

Debut

Lawson reveals that Verstappen supported him well ahead of his debut race in Zandvoort. The New Zealander has fond memories of that: “I remember getting ready for the Grand Prix in Zandvoort. We share the Energy Station, where the drivers’ rooms are next to each other, and he stopped by to telling me not to forget this and to enjoy it. He was very nice and he was really open to giving me advice.”
