Crucial weeks are coming for RKC Waalwijk. With sixteenth place, maintenance in the Eredivisie is far from certain. Yet there are other things going on in the mind of Mats Seuntjens, who indicates that he is already thinking about next season. “I have already had discussions with NAC Breda,” the attacking midfielder is honest about where his heart lies for next season.

“I was born there and Breda has always been special to me,” explains 32-year-old Seuntjens. “If you run out of contract, then you also have to see what will happen to you next season. But it’s not all exciting, sometimes people get a bit crazy about it, I think. My focus is still with RKC, but I also want to know what will happen to me after the summer.”

Enforcement essential

It is therefore not yet clear what will happen to RKC Waalwijk after the summer. If they are still sixteenth at the end, that means relegation. The urgency to perform is therefore high, Michiel Kramer also acknowledges. “I even cheered for Ajax when they scored the equalizer against Excelsior,” Kramer laughs like a farmer with a toothache.

Henk Fraser is also aware of the state of affairs at the Waalwijkers, but the coach does not want to talk about relegation football. “You can completely close it down, but we won’t make it,” Fraser is clear about the way of playing. “This group has different qualities. We have to rely on our footballing qualities. Playing good football is our best defense.”
