BOEKEL – On Sunday evening, March 24, a very large fire raged in a pigsty at the Molenakker in Boekel. Approximately 4,000 piglets died.

The fire was discovered around half past ten in the evening. The fire brigade was present with four tankers and two aerial platforms. The Boekelse fire brigade was supported by colleagues from at least Uden, Veghel and Zeeland.

Despite the quick action of the fire brigade, the pigs and piglets in the stable could not be saved due to the rapid development of the fire. According to a fire brigade spokesperson, there are thousands of animals in the stable. The streets around the Molenakker were closed to through traffic. The fire brigade extinguished the fire and was able to prevent it from spreading to adjacent stables.

The police suspect arson and a suspect has been arrested. The Brabant-North Safety Region reports that 4,000 piglets have died.
