Police Commissioner Bryan Isaacs was officially installed as the fiftieth chief of police of the Suriname Police Force (KPS) by President Chandrikapersad Santokhi on Thursday, March 28, 2024. The installation follows a few weeks after his appointment on February 21 during a government meeting.

Isaacs has also been promoted to Chief of Police by Minister Kenneth Amoksi of Justice and Police (Juspol). The installation and appointment of the new chief of police took place at the Police Academy in the presence of ministers, dignitaries, members of the Diplomatic Corps, the leadership of the KPS and family members of the new chief of police.

President Santokhi emphasized that he is confident that Bryan Isaacs is the right person to fill the role of Chief of Police. Isaacs has a long record of service within the police force and has proven to be a competent and honest professional.

The head of state expressed his confidence in Isaacs and wished him every success in his new position. “I am confident that he, together with the other members of the police leadership, namely Police Commissioners Melvin Pinas and Rishi Akkal, will form a good team to tackle the current and future challenges of the KPS,” said the head of state .

“I will use my knowledge, skills and acquired experience to fulfill the vision of the Suriname Police Force,” stated the new chief of police. He further emphasized in his speech that he will work on an ethical police organization and he is determined to improve motivation among staff. He also wants to make efforts to tackle human smuggling, corruption, cybercrime and combating drugs more effectively.

Isaacs thanked the government and the selection committee for the confidence placed in him. He promised to do his utmost to take the police organization to a higher level and ensure safety in the country. Isaacs called on all police officers to cooperate with him and commit themselves to a professional and honest police force.
