Evacuation from one of the hospitals in Kyiv

Two hospitals in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv were evacuated this evening after the head of the Belarusian security service KGB, Ivan Tertel, said that soldiers were hiding there “behind the backs of children”. He made the statement yesterday in a speech broadcast by the Belarusian state news agency Belta. Tertel mentioned the addresses of the hospitals.

The local authorities in Kyiv, without naming Tertel, speak about a video circulating on social media in which it is said that soldiers are hiding in hospitals. The city council sees this as a threat and has evacuated the hospitals for fear of an air raid.

“We cannot take any risks given the constant rocket attacks,” the city council said. However, the authorities say they have no indications that Russia actually plans to carry out such attacks.

Made-up terrorists

In a video on his Telegram channel, Mayor Klitschko says he is doing everything he can to protect everyone from a possible attack. All patients and medical staff have now been evacuated, according to the mayor.

The Ukrainian security service SBU writes on Telegram that all statements from Belarus about “made-up terrorists” who are allegedly in Ukrainian hospitals must be taken into account “as expressions of informational and psychological special operations” that play into Russia’s hands. The security service does say that every threat must be taken seriously.

Belarus has close ties with Russia. Yesterday, Belarusian leader Lukashenko announced that Russia had moved “several dozen” tactical nuclear weapons to his country.
