A truck transporting contrainers got stuck under a viaduct at the entrance of truck builder DAF on Dirk Boutslaan in Eindhoven on Thursday afternoon. The driver suffered head injuries, but not seriously, police said on the scene.

The driver had accidentally left the cranes at the rear of the truck up. The truck then drove under a viaduct, after which the cranes hit the top of the viaduct. The front of the truck then shot up.

Help from DAF
The fire brigade was present en masse. An air ambulance also landed on the adjacent factory site of truck manufacturer DAF. The company fire brigade, which specializes in trucks, also came to the rescue.

The help of a forklift from the factory was also called in. The forklift was necessary because the metal bridges, which the fire brigade normally uses to work at the height of a truck cabin, turned out to be too low.

Driver freed
Ultimately, the fire brigade managed to free the driver. To do this, a door had to be cut off from the truck. The driver suffered head injuries, but was able to climb out of the cabin via stairs.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance. According to police, the driver was ‘very lucky’.
