Travel advice in France tightened due to increased risk of terrorism | Abroad

--

The travel advice for France has been tightened from green to yellow. Travelers are advised to be extra alert, because there is a greater risk of terrorist attacks in the country.

France adjusted its national threat level to the highest level on Sunday. That is why the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs tightened the travel advice on Thursday.

The French government raised the threat level after the terrorist group Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack on a concert hall near Moscow. According to French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, there is a real chance that such attacks will also be committed in France.

The warning mainly applies to larger cities. If the highest threat level is in effect, the French government can take more security measures to protect citizens.

In December, the travel advice for the French capital Paris had already been increased from green to yellow. This happened after a fatal stabbing incident near the Eiffel Tower. The man who was arrested for this is said to have sworn allegiance to IS. In February, the travel advice for Paris was changed again to green.
