Facepunch Studios removes all Nintendo content from Garry’s Mod and Workshop – Gaming – News

--

Developer Facepunch Studios is in the process of removing all Nintendo-related content for Garry’s Mod on the Steam Workshop page. Nintendo is said to have submitted a takedown request to the developer.

In a blog post on Steam, the developer explains: “To be honest, this is fair. It’s Nintendo content and what the company lets others use is up to them. The company doesn’t want you to work with that content in Garry’s Mod That decision is Nintendo’s and we must respect that.” Facepunch Studios asks content creators to remove Nintendo-related mods for Garry’s Mod because they say it concerns twenty years of mods.

Garry’s Mod is one physicssimulator that came out in 2004. In the ‘game’, players can create their own projects and games without predetermined game goals or gameplay principles. The software relies heavily on user-developed content, which can be shared via the Steam Workshop, among other things. According to Facepunch Studios, this also includes material that Nintendo is actually entitled to; for this purpose the Japanese game company sent so-called DMCA-takedown requests. The company is notorious when it comes to enforcing its copyright.
