HUIJBERGEN – Today, Mayor Adriaansen presented eight residents of Woensdrecht with a Royal Decoration during the General Occasion 2024, also known as the Ribbon Rain. The seventh person who was surprised this day is Theo Sanders (70) from Huijbergen. He was surprised while he was working at Molen Johanna.

Mr Theo Sanders from Huijbergen has been appointed Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau. In 1993, Mr Sanders took the initiative to build a living nativity scene in Huijbergen. This initiative has now been giving the village a cozy appearance during the Christmas period for 30 years and attracts a lot of interest. The annual Lantern Parade, in the context of Epiphany, has also become a recurring activity of which Mr Sanders is the founder. Mr. Sanders has also served for many years as a board member of the church board and the church choir in Huijbergen. He was also a board member at Scouting Huijbergen from 1995 to 2018. In this position he was, among other things, a member of the building committee to realize a larger building. From 2008 to 2016, Mr Sanders was chairman of the Huijbergen village platform. During this period he worked hard for various Huijberg interests, such as increasing road safety and the construction of starter homes. He has also made a significant contribution to the Integrated Village Development Plan (IDOP) Huijbergen from his position at the village platform. Since 2014, Theo Sanders has been committed to the Johanna mill in Huijbergen. He trained as a miller and since 2019 he has been chairman of ‘Mill Foundation Molen Johanna’. The mill is open regularly again, guided tours are given, flour products are sold, an educational center has been built and a garden has been created. Finally, Mr Sanders was a member of the Wmo Advisory Council for 3.5 years until June 2022.

On behalf of the Woensdrechtse Bode, congratulations on this Royal Award!
