Born and raised in Groningen, Antwerp resident Tiemen Hiemstra receives a prize for his novel ‘W.’ the Debutante Prize 2024.

‘A debut that is characterized by stylistic clarity, expressiveness and compositional ability’, the jury writes about W . She indicates that she is particularly fascinated by Hiemstra’s ‘special, self-evident talent with which he also portrays someone’s disappearance as a fascinating search for your own inner self’.

W. was published in May 2023. The novel was the only debut to be shortlisted for the Boekenbon Literature Prize 2023. With the win of the Debutanten Prize of the Maatschappij der Nederlandse Letterkunde, previously known as the Lucy B. and CW van der Hoogt Prize, Hiemstra ends up in a list including Lize Spit, Niña Weijers, Lieke Marsman and Esther Naomi Perquin.

The Debutante Prize, consisting of a glass object and 7,500 euros, will be awarded on Saturday, October 12.

Tiemen Hiemstra (1991) grew up in Groningen. He studied Word Art in Antwerp, where he now lives again after a short period as a postman in Leipzig.
