The supermarkets Jumbo and Plus, as well as several meal manufacturers, have announced that they will cancel a large part of their meat recipes and want to offer only half of their meat recipes by 2025. It fits in with the anti-meat agenda pursued by the media and politicians. Earlier this month it was announced that Jumbo will no longer offer offers on meat products from May.

Meat banned

Dutch people are always told to eat less animal products. It would be bad for the climate and our health. Meat and cheese in particular would have a huge negative impact on the climate. The Health Council also claims that 60% of our protein intake should be vegetable.

These claims about climate and health appear to be based on highly selective research. Even if you believe in the climate story, which FVD does not, you have to recognize that shipped avocados, mandarins and strawberries flown from Spain carry much higher CO2 emissions than the meat of a Dutch cow.

In addition, meat contains many essential nutrients that you cannot or hardly get from other natural sources. Micronutrients such as A, B12, B1, B2, B5, B6, D, F, K2, Q10, creatine, carnitine, carnosine, taurine, zinc, selenium, phosphorus, copper, iron and CLA are found exclusively or abundantly in animal products and, unlike expensive supplements, are bioavailable and therefore easily absorbed by the body.

Nutritious?

Contrary to popular belief, nutrients are not easily interchangeable. Vitamins and amino acids that come from animals are much better absorbed by our body. Moreover, there are many more micronutrients in animal products, the highest concentration per 100 grams! So you have to eat less to stay nourished.

It is not surprising that vegetarians and vegans in particular need supplements to get their nutrients. Their food is also completely processed, chemical in nature, and not natural. Because of this they are fewer and no more nutritious than organic and animal products.

Own choice

Anyone who wants to live life as a vegan can of course do so. But the government’s anti-meat agenda must stop. Forum for Democracy continues to oppose the government’s disinformation campaigns about meat and will try to stop an impending meat tax. But we do more.

To put words into words and really make a difference, FVD has set up a farmers’ network: Honest Food. The mission of Honest Food is to bring healthy, unprocessed products directly from the field to your plate. We bypass the supermarket chains and pay the farmer a better price so that we can maintain our own food supply. This way we remain independent and can always eat a nice piece of meat, no matter what the government does.

I want to know more about Honest Food!
