The discredited Utrecht Student Corps (USC) is no longer allowed to carry out ceremonial activities at the municipality of Utrecht this year. Mayor Sharon Dijksma has informed the corps of this.

Dijksma spoke to the USC board on Wednesday about the so-called banga list of first-year students that members of the corps had drawn up and from which a PowerPoint presentation had been made. According to the mayor, it was a tough but constructive conversation.

“In this conversation I once again reiterated that the presentation made by members of the USC goes beyond all limits and cannot remain without consequences. I have therefore announced that the joint ceremonial activities between the USC and the municipality will not take place this year continue,” said Dijksma.

Subsidy stopped

As a result, this year the USC may not be part of the guard of honor at the aubade on King’s Day and at the commemoration of the liberation of the city on May 7. “There will also be no reception at the King’s Day festival at the Janskerkhof. The USC has promised to keep us informed of their next steps,” says Dijksma.

Utrecht University of Applied Sciences and Utrecht University have already temporarily stopped their subsidies to the USC as a sanction. The USC board previously announced that the members involved had been suspended indefinitely, but was subsequently no longer available for comment. The Public Prosecution Service has also started an investigation.
