‘Renting bicycles has never been expensive’: Wolbers is part of the Drentse Fietstransferium. Route of Happiness through Meppel is one of the ten special tours

After the introduction of the first Bicycle Transferium in Frederiksoord, about four years ago, there are now ten places where a Bicycle Transferium is located. Three were added last year. There is a Bicycle Transferium in Appelscha, Assen, Emmen, Exloo, Frederiksoord, Gasselte, Hoogersmilde, Meppel, Ruinen and Veenhuizen.

The locations are spread throughout Drenthe and are located near or in one of the National Parks or special (nature) areas in the province. The entrepreneurs involved believe in collaboration and are committed to connecting with the different areas. All this to give visitors to Drenthe ultimate cycling pleasure. In addition to renting a regular bicycle or e-bike, there are other types of two-wheelers for rent such as e-choppers, e-scooters or mountain bikes. You can also use all the services that the Bicycle Transferium offers, such as charging the bicycle battery and inflating the tires.

In Meppel, visitors can cycle the Route of Happiness. It is a 54 kilometer long tour along more than 50 characteristic, hospitable, green or special places. The route is described in a handy booklet or can be followed on the phone after scanning a QR code.

However, cyclists can also put together routes themselves. Wolbers has a special cycling map for this, containing 10 beautiful cycling routes and all cycling junctions in Southwest Drenthe. Enthusiasts can plan a route themselves based on the junctions.

“Renting bicycles has always been possible with us,” says Benny Wolbers, who does not have a special discount promotion for the bicycle transferium. With a smile: “Renting has always been inexpensive with us.”
