263 Limburgers received a royal decoration on Friday during the annual ribbon shower for King’s Day. See who has been decorated in your municipality here.

178 men and 85 women received a ribbon. Of these, 19 people were appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau and 244 people were appointed Members of the Order of Orange-Nassau. In almost all Limburg municipalities, one or more ribbons were handed out by mayors.

The most ribbons were handed out in Venlo (23), followed by Echt-Susteren (21) and Maastricht (17). No one was decorated in Mook and Middelaar this year. In Vaals it involved one person.

Of the 263 decorated, 260 live in the province of Limburg. Three people who were awarded on Friday live in Belgium.

Eldest

Mia Franssen (95) from Beek is the oldest decorated person in Limburg this year. She was appointed Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau because of the informal care she provided for her disabled brother for many years and for her charity work.

Several couples were surprised with an appointment as Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau for their years of commitment to foster care. These are: Hub Kicken and Hilly Creugers from Voerendaal, John Bongers and Jacqueline Munnichs from Roerdalen and Ruud Lambregts and Ans Lambregts-Derijck from Gennep.

Contributions

The ribbon rain takes place every year on the last working day before King’s Day, the king’s birthday. People are appointed Member, Knight or Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau or the Order of the Netherlands Lion. People receive the ribbon for their contributions to society, for example by doing volunteer work for years.
