Geldersekade girl’s fall was a fatal accident, arrested boys are no longer suspicious

The fatal fall of the 16-year-old girl from a house on the Geldersekade was a fatal accident, the police said. During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the girl fell from a great height and later died from her injuries. The two 16-year-old boys who were arrested shortly afterwards are no longer suspects.

“After intensive investigation, the police determined that the victim slipped and fell,” the police reported. “There is no criminal offense whatsoever.”

Flowers

Friends have now laid a large number of flowers at the site of the accident. According to a local resident, a large number of teenagers gathered together late afternoon yesterday to mourn.

“I think there were 150 people here,” says the local resident. “They stayed up for an hour or two, even when it started to rain. So I was very impressed with that, I must say.”

The flowers also make a big impression on passers-by. “I’m walking on an ordinary sidewalk on an ordinary canal in Amsterdam. And suddenly you realize that something terrible has happened here. You have to think about that for a moment.”

The police were alerted on Tuesday evening around 11.45 pm about a group of young people who had entered a building on the Geldersekade, near the Nieuwmarkt, after forcing an entrance door. When officers arrived at the location, they heard that someone had fallen from the home shortly before. According to witnesses, the group of young people wanted to go to the roof of the building. The police cannot confirm that.

The girl was resuscitated after her fall and then taken to hospital with serious injuries, where she later died from her injuries. The police have investigated several scenarios and have announced that this is a fatal accident.

The two boys who were arrested had fled from the home. They were initially arrested as suspects, but police say they are no longer suspects. The pair have been free since Wednesday evening.

St. Nicholas Lyceum

The girl was a student of the St. Nicholas Lyceum in South. There is great sadness at the school, headmaster Hubert Roza previously told AT5. “She was a very popular student from 5th pre-university education.” After the messages, the school organized a meeting for students and teachers. According to the rector, about 150 people were present.
