Google Maps gets these handy new features for your holiday

--

Google Maps gets three new features that help you decide where you want to go. There will be better suggestions for places to visit, list making will be better, and you will be able to find important information about a location faster. These are all functions that can come in handy during your holiday.

The first of the three innovations is that Google Maps will now share lists of sites and other users, so that you can see what there is to do in a place. There will also be a trending list of locations that are becoming increasingly popular, a top list of places that are always popular and a list of the hidden gems in the city.

Better lists

If you are planning what you are going to do this holiday, it is nice that you can now make lists of places you want to go. For example, you can list the places chronologically as an itinerary. And if you have been there and posted something on social media about a certain place, you can now also add a link to that place.

More information about dishes on menus

Finally, Google has also added a new feature if you haven’t been to a place yet, but want to know what it’s like there. With the help of AI, Google will now show the most important things about a place.

And when you scroll through a restaurant’s photos, Maps can now tell you which dish you’re looking at. Based on the menu, it is immediately stated how much the dish costs and whether it is vegan or vegetarian, for example.

The new lists are only available in a few cities in the US and Canada for now, but the other features are coming to Google Maps in the Netherlands this month.

Google Gemini can also open Maps

Another Maps news: if you ask Google’s AI assistant Gemini for directions, the chatbot will now automatically open Google Maps. The new feature was added this week in an update to the Gemini app.

If you tell Gemini ‘Navigate to’ or ‘take me to’ followed by a location, the app will first show a short summary of the route with a map. And after a few seconds the Google Maps app will start.
