“I think people need to realize how offensive this is to those of us who really believe in the Bible,” Sharpton said Thursday on MSNBC. “He doesn’t do this by chance during Holy Week. Tomorrow is Good Friday, Sunday is Easter. Of all the times to abuse the Bible, he chooses Holy Week. That is spitting in the face of people who really believe in the Bible.”
Trump introduced the ‘God Bless the USA Bible’ in a video on Tuesday, and the book has since been available for sale online for $59.99 (55.60 euros). The Republican called “religion and Christianity the biggest things missing in this country” and said “we need to make America pray again.”
The book is “inspired by” the song of the same name ‘God Bless the USA’ by country singer and Trump supporter Lee Greenwood, and in addition to the Bible texts themselves, it also contains a copy of the American Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, among other things.
Officially, Trump or his campaign team are not the seller of the book, but according to a source The New York Times the former president does indeed receive a share of the proceeds. Sharpton called the sale of the book nothing less than a “scam”, intended to raise money from believers for Trump’s campaign and his ongoing lawsuits. “Let us not forget that this man tried to sell items of clothing he wore in court (for $4,699, ed).
