The Kraantjes started a campsite in Luxembourg and the Jelies family packed their bags for Spain. The opportunity for KRO-NCRV to follow the two large families during their emigration. The successful first season of will end next week A House Full of Emigrates, but on Instagram Janneke Jelies regularly gives updates about family life in Pinoso, Spain. For example, about her transformation to a fitter body. “I was allowed to view the images of Een Huis Vol Emigret in advance and I found that intense. For health reasons, I decided to make a major change in my lifestyle.” And with success, because she has already lost 26 kilos. “The reactions on social media are mainly positive. A few people don’t believe I did this on my own. I’ll just let that slide away.”

Talking about nasty reactions

Not caring about nasty messages, that cost Janneke some time. “I thought I was used to something after so many seasons of TV, but the nasty reactions surrounding Een Huis Vol Emigreert still hurt me.” She is referring to messages from viewers who condemned her to emigrate to Spain with nine children. “Fortunately, KRO-NCRV has a coach ready who guided us well. I wanted to talk about the nasty reactions, because I don’t regret the emigration itself for a second. We are just doing really well.”

In the final episodes of A House Full of Emigrates we see how father Johan is making significant progress in his own ‘cachita’, what is the current status? “It is practically finished: we have two toilets and two bedrooms. Johan is currently putting the finishing touches to the garage.” Laughing: “This project was actually intended for the older girls, but they are having too much fun in the caravans on the site!” Janneke and Johan are also busy with businesses to offer the large family a good life. “We are not sitting on our butts, but that is an investment we are happy to make.”

Fans visit the Jelies at home

The intention was that Johan would also create a retreat on the Jelies grounds for paying guests, but other choices were made. “We are surprised by fans who come to see us. They find out our address through fellow villagers and are even at the children’s school.“Although, according to Janneke, they are lovely people, the family also needs privacy. Offering accommodation for rent where the address would be published online did not seem suitable. “We want to protect the children. And I also like to relax next to my swimming pool in warm weather without prying eyes at the door.”

Fortunately, Johan and Janneke have already come up with an alternative. “We bought a property a little further away, with a piece of land attached to it. Johan is busy building accommodations. We come by to lend a hand, because many people come to see us.”
