Both physical and online bookstores sold more books in this category. At 12%, the increase is largest in physical bookstores, but 7% more of this type of Dutch-language books were also sold online. Due to this increase, sales of Dutch-language fiction and literary non-fiction during Book Week 2024 are almost equal to the last Book Week before the corona crisis in 2019.

The average weekly sales of Dutch fiction and literary non-fiction also received a boost during the 2024 Book Week, which is 15% higher than during an average week in the past 12 months. Last January, KVB Boekwerk reported that sales of Dutch fiction and literary non-fiction were showing a downward trend.

Eveline Aendekerk, director of CPNB: ‘I am pleased with the significant increase in sales of Dutch-language fiction and literary non-fiction. This is exactly why we organize Book Week! It is precisely this type of Dutch-language books that needs a boost like this and should benefit from the campaign. We look back on a successful Book Week. The long lines for the writers’ performances by the Chabot family, among others, were striking, but also the rise of Dutch literature in De Bestseller 60. It is great to see how we, as a collective book trade, have strengthened the power of the Book Week this year with additional partners. , by coordinating media buying and by adding more ‘stopping power’ to the campaign. With our combined efforts we have managed to attract more people into the bookstore.’
